PayPal's CIO Calls Out Apple's Safari

03/02/2008
PayPal's chief information officer Micheal Barret does not recommend Safari as a browser becuase it does not have two important anti-phishing security features.  The two features Barret is referring to are Safari has no built-in filter to warn users when they are visiting suspicious Web sites and Safari's lack of support for Extended Validation (EV) certificates.  EV is web browsing technology that turns the address bar green when the browser is visiting a legitimate Web site.  Barret went on to say, "Safari has got nothing in terms of security support, only SSL, that's it."  Safari is the default browser on Apple's Mac computers and the iPhone.  "Our recommendation at this point, to our customers, is use Internet 7 or 8 when it comes out, or Firefox 2, 3 or Opera," Barrett said.
